A MAN who was on a pub roof for two nights came down from the building in the early hours of this morning.

The 54-year-old, who has not been named, climbed onto the roof of Famous Game Cock Inn in Rochdale Old Road, but came down at 4.30am after talking to police negotiators.

It is understand the man has done the same thing at the same place previously, when he came down unhurt after 17 hours.

The man had been on the roof for 28 hours.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended and found the 54-year-old man had just left the Fairfield General Hospital, which is located opposite the pub, and climbed up to the roof.

“He was throwing tiles off the roof. After talking to negotiators, the man came down through the pub this morning.”

Police closed Bell Lane at Willow Street in both directions so the junction could be used as a police operations point.

Brian "allegedly" being the word. There are a lot of "allegedly's" being thrown around but no-one knows facts. There might have been a life changing event, someone close to him might have died etc. Don't judge someone because not everyone's brain can take the same amount of stress etc he is obviously in a bad frame of mind and struggling. He needs help and let's hope he gets it. Just remember this could be you or someone close to you some day

I understand people losing the plot after a painful ordeal but don't disrupt other peoples lives. This is the 2nd time he's done this so i'm swinging towards him being permenantly unstable and not just a 1 off. Next time, don't give him food and water coz that's just gonna keep him up there. No doubt he won't be made to pay for the damage he's caused. Pity.

He obviously had no intention of jumping or he would have done it the 1st time he was up there. He smashed his PB of 17hrs from last time and he maybe he'll beat this one next time he's up.

If this mans mind is not functioning properly, which it clearly isn't, he is hardly likely to be thinking straight, and therefore any disruption to others isn't going to be a priority or even a consideration of his. Hardly a selfish act, but more likely an act of desperation.

We used to own the Famous Gamecock Inn and patients often called in to our pub when they were unwell. All of our customers always treated anyone who was clearly unwell with kindness and respect and the Fairfield Hospital staff would always come and talk to someone if we gave them a call.

I am very surprised that any of the neighbours would react with offensive remarks as people who live close to the Mental Health unit are very aware of how poorly people are and do not take advantage of them or ridicule them.

As the bloke came down safe and sound and was fed and watered, that aspect of it is done. What's left now is the damage and business interruption suffered by the Famous Game **** Pub. Pubs nowadays don't make anywhere as much money as they used to and any costs to them are a big deal. The pub will have to pay for roof repairs and would have suffered a loss of profits. I would hope their insurers would pick up the repair costs and agree any business interruption loss but then there's the case of recovery of costs. I hope the insurer would attempt to recover any costs from the bloke but i doubt they would be successful (assuming this guy doesn't work). So, the Game **** would suffer from an insurance premium increase and no recovery of the policy excess. Please remember that the victim here is the pub.
