A Ramsbottom jogging group is encouraging residents to put on their running shoes and get fit.

Rammy Runners, led by Andy Walmsley, meets at Nuttall Park on Monday nights and Tuesday afternoons, and people can join up free of charge.

Andy, who has previously won the Bury ‘Volunteer in Sport’ award at the Bury Sport Awards, started the group in March, 2012.

The group regularly attracts around 12 participants, and he tailors his sessions to cater for beginners, as well as more experienced runners.

He is also working with the ‘I Will If You Will’ scheme, and is calling on more women to get involved, as well as men.

Andy said: “The good thing about it is that it is very much a social group, and everyone encourages each other.”

Councillor James Daly, who attends the sessions, added: “The Rammy Runners group is giving people in Ramsbottom and Summerseat the opportunity to get fit in a fun way, and I would recommend it to anyone.”

The one-hour sessions take place on Mondays from 6.45pm and on Tuesdays from 1.30pm.
