A PRIMARY school has been labelled as "outstanding" again by Ofsted.

Senior leaders and staff at Guardian Angels Primary School, in Leigh Lane, Elton, were hailed for creating an environment which "prepares them well for life in modern Britain".

In the report, headteacher Mr Dennis Harrison was described as an "excellent leader", and the quality of teaching and behaviour of pupils was also rated "excellent".

The school, which was last inspected in June 2011 when it was also found to be "outstanding", was found to have improved since then.

The only point for improvement made by inspectors, during their visit on January 15 and 16, was for teachers to provide additional support to pupils who find it difficult to match letters with the sounds that they make.

The report said: "The headteacher is highly ambitious for the school. He is an excellent leader and very well supported by the governing body and the deputy and assistant headteachers. Together, they have led a relentless drive to further improve standards since the previous inspection.

"As a result, high levels of attainment and achievement have been maintained and there have been marked improvements to both the early years provision and to assessment procedures across the school which are now more rigorous."

A delighted Mr Harrison said: "This is a wonderful testament for our school, as it is a really special place.

"I love being the headteacher here because the staff are fantastic, the families we serve are truly supportive, and because the children are simply delightful — a joy to teach.

"We have a saying here, ‘Once an Angel always an Angel! I think every person in our school family should be very proud to be a part of these happy times. The Oftsed team clearly recognised exactly what makes the school so special."

Mrs Julie Kernaghan, chairman of governors, added: "I am delighted that the Ofsted team have been so positive in the inspection report.

"We know how hard everyone works and strives to provide the children with the best possible start with their education."
