CUTS of £41 million to the policing budget will be debated at a special meeting at Bury Town Hall on Monday.

Police bosses including Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy, as well as political, civic and community leaders from across Greater Manchester will attend the meeting.

Mr Lloyd says the cuts over the next 12 months will lead to the loss of hundreds of police officers across the region.

He said: “The police aren’t alone in this – statutory organisations and the voluntary sector have also seen their budgets slashed with more cuts to come.

“This event is a the start of a conversation I want to have with organisations, agencies and local people across Greater Manchester to see how we can work together to make sure these cuts do not undermine the safety of our neighbourhoods.”

The event comes as Mr Lloyd announces that the police element of the council tax bill has been frozen for the next year.

Bury Council will decide whether it plans to freeze or increase council tax at a meeting at Bury Town Hall on February 25.
