A CANNABIS farm was uncovered after a "severe" fire broke out at a terraced house.

Firefighters were called to the end of terrace house at the junction of Bury New Road and Waterfold Lane in Heap Bridge at 7.40am today.

Smoke was emanating from the roof and the first floor of the house, and firefighters went into the property and found no-one inside.

Fire chiefs believe the blaze could have broke out due to faulty electrics.

Three crews from Bury, Whitefield and Heywood stations attended with 15 firefighters on the scene battling the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other houses on the terrace.

Police were called and are now investigating.

Steve Wilcock, watch manager at Bury Fire Station, said: "It was quite a severe fire.

"We discovered a cannabis farm on the first floor and there were some dodgy electrics involved."
