A seven-year-old Bury girl is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for charity after being inspired by two family members suffering from breast cancer.

Isobel Howarth, of Haslam Hey, is having her hair cut for the first time next week in a sponsored event in aid of the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to children going through cancer treatment.

The Lowercroft Primary School pupil decided to lose her locks after finding out last month that her grandmother's breast cancer had returned after 10 years, while her aunt was also diagnosed with the disease in January.

Mum Michelle Williams said: "So far we are up to £195 in donations but we are hoping to get a bit more in the next week.

"My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in January and has just finished her treatment a few weeks ago, and my mum had breast cancer 10 years ago which, unfortunately, came back last month.

"Because of how much cancer has affected our family, Isobel decided that she wanted to do something to help, and we found out about the Little Princess Trust.

"She has never had her hair cut before, and there's no better reason for her to have it cut for the first time now.

"Her aunty and grandma can't believe that she's doing it and they have both said how amazing it is. Her hair is down her back at the minute so it will be very strange to see her with short hair.

"She keeps asking me whether she's going to look more grown up when it's done, and I think she is quite enjoying all of the attention at the moment."

Isobel will be having her hair cut at 3.30pm on Saturday November 21, at the Black Bull pub on Lowercroft Road.
