SLEIGH bells were ringing as hundreds of people joined together to welcome the festive season at Park View Primary School's annual Christmas Fair.

Pupils and members of the Prestwich community enjoyed an afternoon of activities featuring craft stalls, a tombola, delicious foods and an all-important visit from Santa.

The annual event, organised by the school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA), raises money to put towards equipment and extra activities for the pupils.

Assistant head teacher Rachel McClean said: "The fair was a great success and we are very grateful to all those who attended.

"What is great about the event is that it brings together the community and the school and everyone gets involved and has fun.

"Each year it is organised by a lot of hard working volunteers, including parents and teachers, and every penny raised goes towards valuable school resources. Last year's fund allowed the school to buy a kitchen for the cooking club, as well as little extras like the pupils' Christmas books.

"We haven't counted up the total amount yet but thanks to the generosity of the community it is usually a few thousand pounds."
