PARISHIONERS and young people at a Bury church 'lifted the lid' on a project to raise money for toilets in third world countries.
Church-goers at Brandlesholme Methodist Church and members of Rainbows, Brownies and Guide groups raised £200 towards the Toilet Twinning Project.
The project challenges people to 'twin' their own toilets with lavatories in communities across the world where facilities are scarce.
Basic toilets cost £60 each to build and maintain, so the church pledged to donate £180 because it has three toilets of his own.
However through its fundraising efforts the church beat the total, with £200 set to be sent to a primary school in South Africa which the church has supported for some time.
Lynda Taylor, from the church, said: "The church has received photos of twinned latrines in Barkin Ladi, Nigeria, and Migumomiri, Kenya, and the third in Mimpur Khas, Pakistan. The girls are so enthusiastic about the project that they have vowed to fund a fourth toilet!
"So now there’s a little bit of Bury in Nigeria, Kenya and Pakistan!"
