SHOTS were fired at a car in a residential street near Bury town centre by disguised men carrying at least two guns.

Police say the incident in Killon Street was part of a 'targeted attack' but that nobody had been injured.

Officers were called at 8.45pm yesterday after reports a number of men had been seen with firearms.

They searched the area and found that damage caused to a car was consistent with a number of gunshots being fired.

Bury Times:

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “Witnesses to the incident have reported seeing a dark old style vehicle pull up before three men got out of a car and a number of shots were fired at a car.

“It is possible that a fourth person was driving the car however this cannot be said for certain.”

Bury Times:

Detective Inspector Paul Walker of GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “This shooting will understandably cause concern to local residents given the recent firearms incidents in other parts of Greater Manchester, however I would like to stress that we believe this to be an isolated incident.

“We are treating this very seriously and we are working to identify those responsible for what we believe to be a targeted attack and we have released these descriptions in the hope that the public may be able to help.

“If you have seen anybody fitting these descriptions or seen anything suspicious in the local area then please contact police or Crimestoppers, anonymously.”

Bury Times:

Several properties in a row of terraced houses on neighbouring Alfred Street along with the junction of Alfred Street and Killon Street were blocked off by officers and the cordons remained in place until at least lunchtime.

Forensics officers were seen emerging from one of the mid-terraced houses although the damaged car, a white 4x4, had already been removed by police to preserve the evidence.

Bury Times:

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, lead member for community safety, said: "It was an isolated incident and there were no injuries.

"My understanding is that it is not being linked to anything that's happened elsewhere. The police are still visible in the area and are providing extra patrols. They are asking councillors and their own officers to reassure members of the community."

Neighbours were stunned by the violence and a mobile police office van parked up in Killon Street so community officers could provide reassurance to locals.

The first offender was around 5ft 6in tall, wearing a motorcycle helmet with green on it and carrying a rucksack. He is believed to have been carrying a gun.

His accomplice was about 5ft 6in tall and was wearing a black tracksuit and black balaclava, and is also believed to have been wielding a gun.

The third culprit, unarmed, was more or less 5ft 6in tall and was wearing a grey jacket with dark trousers and a black balaclava.

Enquiries into this matter are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Bury Police Station on 101.
