TWO restaurants could be forced to close after police discovered criminal activity at locations in Unsworth and Ramsbottom.

Greater Manchester Police have submitted an application to Bury Council to review the premises licence at Bellini, in Bolton Street, Ramsbottom, where officers uncovered a cannabis farm in the basement during a raid earlier this month.

They have also requested a licence review for La Capannina Ristorante, in Sunnybank Road, Unsworth, which they say is associated with criminal activities.

A Bury Council spokesman said: "We can confirm that we have received applications from Greater Manchester Police for licence reviews on these two premises and this will be dealt with in due course."

Dennis Warner, the premises supervisor for both restaurants, declined to comment.

Both applications were received by Bury Council on Friday, February 19, and anyone wishing to make representations in relation to this application should submit them in writing to be received by the licensing authority within 28 days.

Representations can be sent to The Licensing Unit Manager, 3 Knowsley Place, Duke Street, Bury, BL9 0EJ, or by email to licensing@bury.gov.uk.

The grounds for the review may be inspected at the above offices from 10am-4pm, Monday to Friday.

No date has been set for a meeting of the council's Licensing and Safety Panel to decide on the review applications.

Greater Manchester Police are yet to release further details on the investigation.
