A WAR veteran and his family are appealing for the return of his "irreplaceable" medals and heirlooms that were stolen by burglars.

Burglars targeted an address on Bentley Meadows, Tottington, Bury, while the victims were on holiday at some time between March 1 and March 10.

The burglars forced entry to the rear door of the house before tampering with the alarm system.

The victim, who is a retired Army officer and Falklands veteran, had a number of sentimental war medals and family heirlooms stolen during the burglary.

Some of the sentimental items taken include a Distinguished Flying Cross WW2 medal complete with storage box, an antique gold pocket watch with chain and an Omega wristwatch with a steel strap.

Police Constable Chris Boardman from GMP’s Bury division said: “This is a very distressing case in which a retired Army officer has had service medals and sentimental family heir looms taken from him.

“The victim and his family are understandably devastated and want their irreplaceable items back.

“We are doing everything we can to identify the offenders and recover the stolen items.

“I would like to appeal for any witnesses to come forward who may have information regarding the burglary or the property that has been taken.

“If anyone has any information, no matter how small or insignificant they think it may be, please get in touch with police at Bury on 0161 856 8181”.
