A CHARITY night organised to celebrate a grandfather going into remission for bone marrow cancer raised hundreds of pounds on Saturday night.

Janet Crocken, of Blenmar Close, arranged the event at Bar 1, in Stand Lane, after her father-in-law Alan Crocken got the good news.

The 46-year-old organises charity fundraisers every year and enlisted the help of her family and friends to raise hundreds of pounds for Cancer Research.

With some money still to be counted, she estimates that over £600 will have been raised after more than 100 people attended the event.

The charity night came just a few days after Janet's son Liam and his girlfriend, Claire Peachey, took part in the Bolton 10k run to add to the fundraising efforts.

Mrs Crocken, who has been running charity nights for around 15 years, said this year's was extra special thanks to their personal connection to the cause.

She told the Radcliffe Times: "It went really well. We had a really good turnout and, thankfully, the weather was okay as well.

"We had a raffle, a tombola, and a 'guess how many chocolates are in the tub' contest.

"Alan was there on Saturday and I think he was a bit overwhelmed by it all at times.

"Everything is still going well for him after we had the good news that he was in remission.

"I have run fundraisers like this for quite a few years and we had a lot of the same faces that we always get, but also a few new ones.

"I think because it was a cause that was really close to our hearts this year, it made a big difference in terms of people coming out and being really generous with us.

"There has always been a good amount of support for my charity events ever since I started doing them about 15 years ago and we will carry on again next year."
