DRIVERS have been warned to expect traffic chaos while work is carried out to repair a collapsed sewer on a busy main road.
United Utilities will be starting the repairs on Manchester Road, at the junction with Parkhills Road and Radcliffe Road, on Sunday, August 7, and are expected to be at the site for one week.
Council officials have warned that there is potential for traffic to be delayed, with northbound vehicles heading towards Bury town centre needing to be diverted around the junction into the ‘wrong’ lane for a short distance.
Temporary four-way signals will be in place, which the council say means that "capacity at the junction will be greatly reduced."
In order to ease congestion, there will be no right turn either into or out of Parkhills Road.
Signed diversion routes will be in operation for diverted traffic.
