Shoplifter jailed for 12 weeks

A SHOPLIFTER has been jailed for 12 weeks.

Nicholas Boucher, 36, of no fixed address, admitted three shoplifting offences to Bury magistrates.

He stole toiletries worth £23 from Pound World in Bury on July 30, two phone chargers worth £59 from Currys in Bury on August 15 and two North Face T-shirts worth £50 from JD Sports in Bury, also on August 15.

Magistrates said the offences were serious because of Boucher’s criminal record, his repeat offending and his lack of compliance with previous court orders.

Thief told he may face jail

A THIEF who stole meat worth £68 from Marks and Spencer in Bury on August 7 has been told he could be jailed if he reoffends in the next year.

John Darbo, aged 54, of Glenboro Avenue, Elton, admitted the offence to Bury magistrates and was given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year.

He must also pay the shop £34 compensation.

Man jailed for breaching restraining order

A FAIRFIELD man has been jailed for four weeks after breaching a restraining order.

Adeel Yamin, aged 35, of Topping Fold Road, admitted to Bury magistrates that he contacted a woman on March 3 in breach of the order.

He also admitted that he committed the offence while subject to a suspended sentence for possessing an offence weapon and threatening two women last December.

Yamin must also pay the woman £40 compensation.

Suspended jail term for attacker

A WOMAN who assaulted three people at a sheltered housing complex has been spared jail.

Tania Whetham, aged 33, of Harwood Crescent, Tottington, assaulted two men and a woman at Holly Court in Pimhole Road, Bury, and destroyed a vase worth £20 on July 10.

Whetham pleaded guilty at Bury magistrates to three counts of assault and one count of criminal damage. Magistrates said she committed the offences while under the influence of alcohol.

The bench said the offences were serious because of one the victims was carrying out their duties as a staff member and the other two victims were vulnerable.

Magistrates gave Whetham an eight-week prison sentence suspended for a year and ordered her to pay £130 compensation to her victims and £140 court costs.

Man drunk and disorderly

IAN Morrish, aged 53, of Padiham Close, Bury, has been ordered to pay £155 fines and court costs after admitting to Bury magistrates that he was drunk and disorderly in Walmersley Road, Bury, on August 2.

Red-light fine

MAXINE Davies, aged 29, of Carlisle Close, Whitefield, has been ordered to pay £198 in fines and court costs after being convicted of driving an Audi through traffic lights on the East Lancs Road 33 seconds after the lights had turned to red on April 7.

Break-in man sent to jail

A THIEF who broke into a post office has been jailed for 30 weeks.

John Webster, aged 45, of Hampson Street, Radcliffe, raided Radcliffe Post Office in West Street on July 25, though he did not steal anything.

He admitted one count of trespass with intent to steal to Bury magistrates and the bench said the offence was serious because of his record of dishonesty.

Previously, Webster had been given a community order after admitting stealing clothing, shaving equipment and a duvet worth a combined £104 from shops in Bury on New Year's Eve last year.

Motorist in court over driver ID

A RADCLIFFE man has been given six penalty points after being convicted of a motoring offence.

Leon Farnham, 36, of Whitehead Crescent, was asked by police on January 19 to reveal the identity of a driver who was alleged to have committed an offence in a Vauxhall Insignia.

However, Farnham was convicted at Salford Magistrates’ Court of failing to identify the driver.

He was also ordered to pay £811 in fines and court costs.
