OUTSTANDING students, artists and performers were recognised for their achievements in the past academic year at Elton High School's annual presentation evening.

The school's former headteacher of 25 years, Neil Scruton, was the guest presenter for the night, handing out awards to high achievers in a range of subjects as well as pupils who showed exceptional talent in the arts.

Prizes also went to those who had performed services to the school and to the local community, through the Art to Heart charity.

Current Headteacher, Jonathan Wilton, said: "It was a lovely evening which reflected the positive climate across the school. It is a time of dynamic change for our school, with the whole community excited about the developments that are taking place.

"As well as moving into the first new secondary school building that Bury has seen for many years, our 2016 GCSE results were fantastic, with students achieving higher rates of progress than any other mixed gender high school in Bury.

"The results were testament to the outstanding teaching that takes place across our curriculum and to the hard work and efforts of our students."
