A DOG centre in Whitefield hosted a doggy treasure hunt and sleepover to raise cash for animal shelters over the festive period.

Growling Groomers Doggy Day Care organised for the pets to stay at its centre in Egremont Close to raise money to pay for food and beds for animal shelters over Christmas.

Staff camped out with the animals before taking part in a treasure hunt dog walk through Philips Park the following weekend.

Les Pearce, owner of Growling Groomers Doggy Day Care, said: “The staff held the sleepover and set up tents in the centre for the dogs to sleep in. They decorated them in fairy lights and made it look Christmassy.

“We also raised £200 from the treasure hunt. I planned out the route around the park and laid out clues. It was such a success that everyone wants to do another one in summer next year.

“We had another fundraiser, which was guess how many dog biscuits were in the jar, and in total raised just short of £800 overall.

“All the money has been spent on buying dog food and beds which we have donated to Bolton Destitute Animal Shelter and Pennine Pen Animal Rescue in Oldham.

“The rest of the beds and food will be donated to homeless shelters for homeless people with pets over Christmas and New Year.”
