Tram passenger fined by court

A PASSENGER who travelled on the Metrolink system without a ticket has been ordered to pay a total of £370.

Bury magistrates heard how Abdalla Alziyadi, aged 33, of Valley Mill Lane, Bury, failed to produce a ticket when asked by an inspector on September 1 last year.

The court convicted him in his absence, fined him £220 and he was also ordered to pay £120 court costs plus a £30 victim surcharge.

Unpaid work after assault

MAGISTRATES have handed a man a community sentence after he was found guilty of assaulting a woman in Bury on November 5 last year.

At Bury Magistrates’ Court Lawrence McVey, aged 57, of Bronte Avenue, Bury, was ordered to carry out 80 hours unpaid work, participate in 25 days of rehabilitation activities and pay £860 in costs and charges.

DVD shoplifter fined by court

A SHOPLIFTER who stole Blu ray films and DVDs from HMV stores in Bury in September and October last year has been ordered to have treatment for drug addiction for six months.

At Bury Magistrates Court Craig Crowshaw, aged 40, of Coronation Road, Radcliffe, pleaded guilty to committing the offences.

He was fined £50, ordered to pay £100 compensation and was also told he must participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activities.

Thief jailed

A THIEF who stole two bottles of wine and ham worth £14.50 from Asda in Bury on February 7 has been jailed for eight weeks by Bury magistrates.

The court heard that Anthony Richardson, aged 51, of no fixed address, was already on licence for other crimes when he committed the offence.
