THE deserving winners of the Made in Bury awards were announced this afternoon during a mammoth council session.

The four were recognised and presented with their awards during the Bury full council meeting.

Joanne Wilcock was the winner of the ‘Oustanding Contribution to a Township Award’ for her work as part of the Affetside Civic Society.

The ‘Young Person or Young Persons’ Group’ award went to Bury Stars, an organisation which runs a weekly youth group for those with special educational needs.

The winner of the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ award was Jacquie Morrison, who chosen for her hard work with the Creative Living Centre in Rectory Lane, Prestwich. The final winner was D-Caff, a dementia cafe, which won ‘Best Community Project funded by the Township Forum’.

All of the winners were present at the meeting in the Knowsley Street town hall, to receive their awards and take photos with the Mayor and councillors.

Outgoing Mayor, Cllr Mike Connolly, said: “This council values the work that voluntary, community and faith sector groups and volunteers do across our borough which help make Bury a good place to live, work and visit.
“These awards help us to recognise that, across our communities, individuals and groups continue to give their unpaid time and commitment to improve their local areas and the lives of others.

“During my time as mayor, I have been honoured to meet many of them and witness first-hand the type of work they do and the positive impact they have on the lives of others.”
