AN AWARD-winning barber has spoken of her delight after opening her third shop in Bury.

Paula Henry, the owner of Chaps Barbers, says that she has had her eyes on the new shop in Brandlesholme Road for more than a decade.

Ms Henry, aged 45, opened her first shop in Water Street, Radcliffe, in June 1999, with funding from the Princes Trust.

She later opened a second shop in Market Street, Tottington, which won an award at the Bury North Small Business Awards earlier this year.

And, after wanting to expand the business further for a number of years, she has finally got her hands on a third shop in her dream location.

She said: “I have been watching this group of shops on Brandlesholme Road for about 15 years.

“I wanted a shop on here and it’s just been a waiting game until one finally popped up.

“It’s been going really well. We have no advertising so we’re just going off word of mouth at the moment.”

Ms Henry has two sons aged 13 and 24, and the oldest, Oliver, followed her into the industry six months ago and will be working at the Brandlesholme shop.

The shop, which was opened by the Mayor of Bury Cllr Dorothy Gunther and local councillors on October 30, offers a range of male grooming services from haircuts to hot towel shaves, beard grooming, waxing, face masks and more.

It also houses a lie down sunbed and a bar.

Ms Henry added: “Men are more into the male grooming these days so at this shop we can offer lots of different things, such as hot towel shaves and facials for men. People have already been in to have their beards and hair died.”

“The ceiling of the shop is an old nautical map so we have based the rest of it around that. It also has a bookcase at the back which you go through to get to the kitchen.”

This winter, Chaps are also asking customers to bring in any unwanted clothing to donate to Barnabus, a charity who support the homeless, and will be offering free haircuts at their drop-in centre in Manchester.
