A QUIZ night in aid of the Sam Ahearn Appeal has helped raise awareness of epileptic-related deaths.

The event helped drum up support for an ongoing funding page, which has now raised more than £41,000 for SUDEP Action.

Thanks to the generosity of those who attended the quiz at St Mary’s Catholic Social Club, in Radcliffe, another £542 was contributed to the charity to support bereaved families and fund research into the prevention of epileptic-related deaths.

The Sam Ahearn Appeal was launched in memory of 19-year-old Samantha who lost her life in July, 2009, after suffering a fatal epileptic seizure.

Samantha’s mum, Lynn McGoff, said: “The quiz event went extremely well and was well attended.

“The £542 that was raised will help so many who have epilepsy.

“We would like to thank all those who turned up after reading about the quiz in the Bury Times.

“We were thanked by various people who are dealing with epilepsy for raising the awareness.”
