A CAR was destroyed in a suspected arson attack in the early hours of today.
Firefighters were called to Birley Street at 3am after a fire ripped through a 4x4, belonging to a resident on the street.
Crew Manager Saul Hickey of Green Watch at Bury Fire Station said: "It is being treated as deliberate ignition.
"The fire took hold in the engine compartment and police were called to the scene."
Firefighters were on the scene for around 45 minutes.
A spokeswoman for GMP said: "Shortly before 3.10am on Friday, March 9, 2018, police were called to reports of a vehicle on fire on Birley Street in Bury.
"Officers attended and found a car with significant fire damage.
"Enquiries into the full circumstances around this incident are ongoing."
