A DOG may be left blind after a passerby allegedly hit it with a metal chain.

Owner Tracy Crofts has CCTV footage which shows Charlie, a white Bichon Frise, running towards a man and his dog as they pass by Doffer Fold Farm in Radcliffe on Sunday at 6.20pm.

Charlie appears to roll across the ground after being struck with a lead.

Ms Crofts, who lives on the farm with fiancé Dwayne Wilson, said she had to rush Charlie to Armac Vets in Bury, and has since learned that her six-year-old pet may suffer blindness in her right

eye.

Ms Crofts, aged 30, has reported the incident to the RSPCA.

She said: “My dog was rushed to the vets where she lay lifeless and might lose the sight in her eye and might have a fractured eye socket.

“This has made us think twice about living where we do. The issue isn’t the animals, it’s the human who has done this.

“I want people to be aware. It is scary to think my dog nearly died.

“It is heartbreaking.”

The couple have lived on Doffer Farm for two years, where they work with horses, including rescue animals.

Ms Crofts has three rescue dogs, which she allows to run free in the yard.

She said: “I was filling the hay nets when I heard Charlie yelp.

“She was in a really bad way. She was bleeding.

“She could not stand or move. I rushed her to the vets.

“We did not think we would see her again.

“I’m now terrified of letting my dogs out.”

Ms Crofts contacted the police after the incident but they told her it is a civil matter.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We received a call and are aware of the incident.”

The Radcliffe Times contacted the RSPCA but no one was available to comment.
