YOUNG people are being urged not to start camp fires after firefighters were called out during one of their busiest periods of this year.
Crews were called to land off Darbyshire Street in Radcliffe on Thursday, just before 9.30pm after the camp fire had got out of control as firefighters across Greater Manchester were tackling moorland fires.
Crew Manager Keith Hadley said: "They had put chairs round the fire, and there was rubbish piled up, some I think the young people had collected and some which had been fly-tipped.
"They had been gathering there for a while.
"The fire broke out during a very busy time for us."
