PASSENGERS who find it hard to stand on public transport could soon be able to take advantage of a new scheme to help them find a seat.
The Please Offer Me A Seat scheme will offer passengers with disabilities, injuries or hidden conditions access to a badge system, enabling them to indicate to fellow passengers that they need to sit down. Similar badges were introduced in London in 2016.
Transport for Greater Manchester says the scheme has been designed to be "simple and accessible" and "built on trust and mutual cooperation". Applicants to the scheme will not have to supply any medical details or supporting evidence.
The scheme, described as "helpful" by disability charity Breakthrough UK, will also be followed up with a social media campaign to ensure that passengers know to offer their seats to those with badges.
