SEVERAL remembrance sessions have been organised by Bury Archives & Local History as part of a four-year project to collate images, obituaries and newspaper cuttings from the First World War.
In 2014, the service was awarded Heritage Lottery Funding for a project entitled 'Bury Remembers the First World War'.
Since then, dedicated volunteers and staff have extracted a vast array of content from the five local newspapers that were in print during the Great War.
The results of this work will be produced via a new website which is due to be launched early next year.
However, the archives service is hosting several remembrance sessions to enable visitors to the view the collection — entailing more than 2,500 photos of soldiers, more than 2,500 obituaries, more than 30,000 newspaper clippings and a database of some 2,800 records — ahead of the armistice centenary.
Bury Remembers drop-in events will be held at the following locations:
Prestwich Library: Tuesday, November 6, between 10am and 12noon
Ramsbottom Library: Wednesday, November 7, between 2pm and 4pm
Bury Archives: Thursday, November 8, between 10am and 12noon
Radcliffe Library: Friday, November 9, between 10am and 12noon
