A "friendly and welcoming" orchestra is looking to strengthen its violin section ahead of its next concert.

Ramsbottom Concert Orchestra (RCO), which has 28 regular members, is performing its concert Favourite Melodies at All Saints Church in Brandlesholme at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 9.

RCO was founded by the present conductor, Barry Sugden in 1986 and they meet at 7.30pm every Thursday at St Francis House Community Centre on Hebburn Drive in Brandlesholme.

The orchestra is now looking for more members to bolster its ranks.

A spokesperson said: "This very friendly and welcoming orchestra rehearse and perform a wide range of light and popular classical music, overtures, symphonies, and selections from Broadway shows and are currently rehearsing Elgar’s Enigma Variations, excerpts from The Merry Widow and Tales from the Vienna Woods by Strauss.

"Violinists or viola players interested in joining the RCO who are up to at least Grade 6 standard should contact Barry Sugden on 0161 761 2985 or 07971 623015 or just turn up on rehearsal night."
