Young footballers have raised more than £1,600 packing bags at Tesco Bury after their club was targeted by thieves and vandals.
Almost 70 children from Seedfield Sports Junior Football Club came to the town centre supermarket to help raise money for their club.
The club had £20,000 worth of equipment stolen, and all five football pitches were destroyed.
In an effort to bring football back to the club as soon as possible players, coaches, and parents fundraised at a local supermarket.
Wendy Howarth, the community champion at Tesco Bury, said: “Tesco Bury store Manager, David Culf, and myself would like to thank all our customers for the very generous donation and support to Seedfield FC.
“The bag packing was brilliant, it was great to see all the community coming together to help these kids.

“We must have had nearly 70 children coming into store at different times to do a bucket collection and to help customers with their shopping, the kids were so polite and helpful and so enthusiastic.”
Over two days, £1695.94 was raised for the club who have thanked all those who donated.
In a statement made via social media, a spokesperson from the club said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Wendy and Tesco for allowing us in store to collect.
“Another huge thank you to all of the lovely customers who have been so generous with their donations and treats for the children and thank you to our players who did an amazing job representing Seedfield.
“We are extremely grateful to each and every one of you who have supported us”.
After discovering the damage to club site, a gofundme page was set up, separate to the weekend fundraiser.
As of Friday, October 20, £13,143 had been raised via that link.
Wendy added: “When I heard about what had happened it was so important to me to ask Tesco Head Office to help and within 5 min they had donated £100.
“The children from Seedfield FC need the club and I know how important it is to them.”
