A provocative borough restaurant has been named among the most favourite eateries in the UK.

Karen’s Diner on Bury New Road in Prestwich has been named as one of OpenTable’s UK Top 100 restaurants for this year.

The table reservation service, which also produces city-based restaurant guides and blogs, published the list after compiling 1.2m diner reviews. 

It also analysed dining metrics including ratings, percentage of reservations made in advance, and five-star reviews, the list highlights some of the top spots favoured by diners this year.

The diner, famed for its “rude staff and great burgers”, was named among five Greater Manchester restaurants including The Ivy Asia in Manchester’s Spinningfields, Bar San Juan in Chorlton, Hawksmoor and Higher Ground, both in Manchester City Centre.

The Karen’s Diner chain, which was first established in Sydney, Australia, has been a hit with customers since it opened its Prestwich branch last year.

Since then, the diner has attracted customers from all over the region, including celebrities like Davina McCall who praised the “terrible care” staff took of her and per party during her visit in January, for which she travelled from Tunbridge Wells.

Later that month, TV Presenter Kym Marsh and fellow Coronation-street star Anthony Cotton braved a meal at Karen’s.

The Bury-born actor called the experience, “full-on funny” adding that the experience was “an outrageous night out.”

In July, Nolan sister Anne, also paid an unsuspecting visit to the eatery after she thought she was in for “a lovely Sunday lunch.”

Karen’s Diner describes itself as “an interactive diner and an absurdly fun experience.

"At Karen's you will be greeted and waited upon by rude waiters and forced to play a variety of stupid games.

“You can expect good food, good fun and a dining experience like you've never had before.”

Despite the restaurant’s unwelcoming atmosphere, any diner who can prove their name is Karen can receive a free drink.
