  • Holcombe Tap

Bolton Road West, Ramsbottom

Bury Times: Holcombe Tap

The Holcombe Tap has been a Ramsbottom establishment for more than five years after it opened in 2018. 

It was taken over by new bosses, father and son team Bill and Will Gallie, in 2022. 

In November last year it won the the Leading Casual Restaurant award alongside another Ramsbottom venue, Colleens, at the "This is Manchester Awards, 2023".

One reviewer said: "Holcombe Tap? More like Holcombe top of the Sunday Roast league! Am I right? Staff were attentive, the food and drinks were great. Atmosphere was warm and cosy with some live music."

  • The Pack Horse

Watling Street, Affetside

Bury Times: The Pack Horse in Affetside

Founded in 1442, the Pack Horse sits on the highest point of the Roman road between Manchester and Ribchester.

One of the pub’s main attractions is the skull which sits in the bar area, believed to be that of the Earl of Derby’s executioner, George Whowell.

A reviewer said the Pack Horse was a place with "a lovely Sunday roast." 

They continued: "Fantastic setting, nice atmosphere and a great meal. We went for the Sunday roast platter and very pleased we did.

"Food quality was to a high standard. Fresh and well-presented with generous portions.

"Staff were great too. Friendly and helpful from the moment we entered and service was quick but never rushed. A few different staff dealt with us throughout the meal and all provided a good service"

Whalley Road, Ramsbottom

Bury Times: Eagle and Child was named the Food Pub of the Year

The award winning Eagle and Child source ingredients from local suppliers from Manchester, Ramsbottom and Lancashire. 

In January 2022 it was nominated for ‘Leading Restaurant Award (Formal). In 2017 it won the ‘John Smith’s Great British Pub of the Year’ and Best Food Pub in the Manchester Food and Drinks Awards held in October 2016.

A reviewer said: "Great place for a birthday meal and in my opinion the best Sunday roast in the area! Unreal food and extremely friendly staff."

Ramsbottom Road, Hawkshaw

The Red Lion serves a Sunday roast every week from 12-7pm, including unlimited Yorkshire puddings and gravy. 

One reviewer said: "Still the best Sunday roast in the area!

"Make sure you go feeling hungry. Plenty of meat, lots of lovely and varied fresh veg (no frozen garden peas!), proper roast pots and boat loads of gravy (pun intended). If you haven't tried it yet go and treat yourself."
