Apprentices who study at Bury College have been honoured as they make "great progress in their careers".

To mark National Apprenticeship Week, which started on Monday, the college has awarded Apprenticeship Star Awards to four learners and recognised a borough employer too.

The awards were nominated by their learning and skills coach from several difference areas.

Lyn Atherton, a level two customer service apprentice working at Oxford Grove Primary School in Bolton, won her award for being committed.

Adam Bailey, a level two customer service apprentice at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, scooped his award for being collaborative.

Katie Lockey, a level two early years practitioner apprentice at Mulberry Bush Whitefield nursery, was celebrated for being confident.

Michaela Brady, a level two early years practitioner at Beeches Day Nursery in Prestwich, was praised for being resilient.

Meanwhile, Joe Brown and Maria Makin from Tottington-based Smile Transformation and Cosmetic Services Ltd were recognised for providing a supportive environment.

This year’s theme for National Apprenticeship Week is "Skills for Life" and reflects on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop their skills required for a rewarding career.

Head of apprenticeships at the college, Laura Kirkpatrick, said: "National Apprenticeship Week is a great chance to shine a spotlight on our wonderful apprentices who are all making great progress in their careers.

“The four we selected for a Star Award have all stood out over the last few months and have really represented our wider Bury College values of commitment, collaboration, confidence and resilience.
