Fifteen swans appeared to have ‘adopted’ a mill lodge in Bury as their new home in 1976.

The mute swans had settled on one of the reservoirs serving Peel Mills off Castlecroft Road.

The birds, which normally lived on Elton Reservoir, had become regular visitors to the lodge.

In the background you get an idea of the scale of Peel Mills, built over a 30 year period between 1885 and 1915.
