Care homes across the UK have been ranked in each area by reviews from those who have family members there.

We decided to take a look at the care homes in the borough and see which ones came out on top.

Whitefield House

Rated: 9.9/10

Whitefield House is a small family run business that have developed an excellent reputation for providing outstanding care.

They care for a range of things including people with dementia, physical disabilities and respite care.

The home offers a wide range of activities which are tailored to meet residents' individual interests.

One review said: “We chose Whitefield House for my mum in January 2021.

“We have been extremely satisfied with the care and support she has received during her time at the home.

“The staff are wonderful with my mum. They are caring and compassionate with all residents.

“I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone looking for a supportive environment for their loved ones.”

Holt House

Headlands Drive, Hilton Lane, Prestwich

Rated: 9.9/10

Holt House is a care home run on Christian principles although is open to anyone irrespective of personal beliefs.

Care is enhanced by an awareness that people should be regarded holistically, which means their physical, spiritual and mental well-being are all cared for.

They offer care for a number of issues and disabilities including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and dementia.

One positive review said: “My mother has been in Holt House for 18 months now and throughout this time her care has been excellent, always respectful and individualised. I feel that the staff really know her.

“Recently she broke her shoulder and needed more help but staff attentiveness to her changing needs could not be faulted.

“My mum does not take part in the activities provided but she enjoys sitting in the garden in fine weather and staff are always happy to take her out there.

“The carers are always responsive to queries or concerns and deal with them in a friendly manner.

“In general, Holt House has a really caring ethos.”

Gorsey Clough Nursing Home

Harwood Road, Tottington

Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is a dedicated dementia care home situated in a stunning green belt area.

The setting is entirely rural yet very close to Tottington for amenities.

The home has been extended over the years to accommodate 50 beds, has beautifully maintained lawns and a large patio area where residents can sit and enjoy the views.

One review said: “Super friendly, professional staff. Care home is always spotless, and you can tell the staff truly care.

“The manager is always looking at ways to improve the care home for the residents.

“My dad has been at Gorsey Clough for a number of years and has formed close bonds with a lot of the staff despite his condition.

“It's comforting to know that he is so well cared for.”

Rose Court Care Home

Rose Court Care Home offers a warm and welcoming environment where residents receive high quality care.

Staff work hard to ensure residents care needs are met while making sure the home is a happy place to live.

The activity programme supports those living in the home to enjoy the things they love most, including a variety of hobbies from baking to chess.

A review said: “When my husband first came into residential care I was worried as I looked after him myself for several years.

“Initially, my husband was difficult to deal with, staff were patient and kept me informed at every stage.

“Now several months on he is very settled and cared for well. I am always warmly welcomed by the staff. I feel he is safe and cared for.”

Abbeycliffe Care Home

Abbeycliffe is a family run business with over 40 years’ experience in the caring profession.

Abbeycliffe has a team of fully trained staff to provide excellent standards of care to the elderly, 24 hours a day. They are on hand to ensure that the specific needs of each resident are met.

Staff assist with daily living activities such as dressing, bathing, toileting, laundry, medication, activities and provide nutritional meals.

One review said: “My mother became a resident of Abbeycliffe Care Home in August 2023.

“The staff helped her settle in and feel at home. I like the fact there is a resident welcomer to help new residents to settle in.

“I have been pleased with the cleanliness of the home and the catering services.

"Friendly staff and good care.

“Great hairdressing service and entertainment provided and a lovely outdoor area too. Very happy and recommend it!”
