Three more teenagers have been arrested after a series of stabbings in the borough.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are continuing to investigate a spate of violent incidents in March.

Among the incidents was a triple stabbing near Bury Market, on Monday, March 11.

Emergency services arrived on Murray Street around noon on Monday, before the victims were taken to hospital.

Police said three males had been stabbed following an altercation.

Also on that day, police were called to reports of a stabbing on Malton Avenue in Whitefield where a "male was found to have injuries that were not life-threatening".

Two days later, on Wednesday, March 13, police were sent to Whitefield Metrolink stop at around 11pm after an "offender" lunged at someone with a knife, during which no injuries were reported.

And on Thursday, March 14 on Parkhills Road, Bury, a 40-year-old man and three 16-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, following an altercation. Police say no serious injuries were reported.

Following the incidents, police imposed section 60 stop and search powers across large parts of Bury and Whitefield, and across the Metrolink system.

A section 60 authority grants police powers to search people in relation to criminal investigations.

Today, Thursday, police said two 17-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

All three have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

This takes the total number of arrests to 18 in connection with the incidents in the town centre in March of this year.

Detective Inspector Chris Mannion said: "We won’t tolerate this kind of behaviour in Bury and will continue to track down those we believe responsible.

“Extra officers have been deployed to the area since the incident to support the community and those increased patrols will continue.

"We have reviewed hours of CCTV footage of the incidents and are still appealing to anyone with information to make a report to police.

“This includes anyone who may have relevant footage including CCTV, mobile, Ring doorbell or dashcam. You can make a report by calling 101, quoting log 1338 of 11/03/2024.

“Alternatively, you can make a report anonymously by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
