HOLY Cross College students have been brushing up on their cookery skills before going to university.

They watched a demonstration before being let loose in the kitchen to create spaghetti bolognese, a vegetarian stir fry, and savoury and sweet pancakes.

The course, run by the college and Bury Adult Learning Centre, included information on basic food hygiene and the importance of a balanced diet.

It is hoped that the students will use their new skills to eat more healthily while away from home.
