THE RAIN my have dampened last weekend’s sporting action at Bury Sports Clubs, but the players who were given a rest from rugby and cricket didn’t mind too much.

For they were only too happy to instead raise a glass at this year’s Septembury beer festival, which took place at the club last Friday and Saturday. (Sep 5 and 6) Organised by social and fundraising organisation Bury Round Table, the event brings 25 weird and wonderful real ales to Bury, giving beer fans the chance to sample some of the best tastes around, including an interesting cherry chocolate pint.

The festival is expected to raise in the region of £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, which provides practical, medical, emotional and financial help to people suffering from cancer and their relatives.

Round table vice chairman Matthew Parr said: “It has been a really good weekend and we have had people from the South East coming up to join in with the fun.

“We’ve had tremendous support from ale fans and the local community and everyone involved with the round table is delighted to be able to support Macmillan.”
