GARDENS in Whitefield are looking better than ever after a high turnouts in this year’s Elms in Bloom floral contest.

More 100 guests turned out to the end-of-competition presentation ceremony at Elms Community Centre, in Green Lane, on August 23 to discover if their colourful creations had picked up a prize.

There were 33 winners chosen in categories including hanging baskets, pots, window boxes, front and back gardens, patios gardens and community and environmental spaces.

The judges were local horticultural experts Yvonne and David Moore. Prizes and certificates were handed out by Mayor of Bury, Councillor Peter Ashworth.

Councillor Joan Grimshaw, who helped organised the event, said: “The competition is now in it’s third year and it just seems to be getting better and better.

“The standard of entries this year was really high and the local community really put in a lot of hard work and effort.

“The garden displays really go a long way to making the area look bright and colourful all summer.”
