SCHOOLCHILDREN from Tottington High will have their artwork featured in a health campaign being launched in Bury.

Year 8 pupils at the school took part in a competition to design posters for a healthy heart project to run throughout December.

The winning posters will be displayed in GP surgeries and health clinics across the borough to promote the campaign and raise awareness of the factors that contribute to heart disease.

Chairman of the Heart Care Group, Jeff Winstanley, presented prizes to the winners of the poster competition.

First place was awarded to 12-year-old Jack Forrest, who won a digital camera and three runners up; Joshua Redgrave, Jack Dawson and Kate Mansfield, also all aged 12, were each given an mp3 player.

The scheme will begin with a Healthy Heart Day at the United Reformed Church in Bury on Saturday.

The event, which is supported by NHS Bury and the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), will offer visitors a full healthy heart check to measure height and weight and test blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

It has been organised by Bury Health Care Support Group who offer support to patients, families, carers and friends after a heart attack.
