PUPILS are going hopping mad for the new playground craze sweeping Cams Lane Primary School.
The youngsters are reviving the age-old tradition of skipping.
Special workshops were held to introduce all the children to different skipping techniques and show them how to use long ropes.
A group of 12 Year Five pupils and lunchtime supervisors were given extra training to make them skipping experts.
They have now become “playground friends” and are sharing what they learned with pupils across the school.
PE co-ordinator Steve Coleman said: “All the children loved the workshops and they are very excited about skipping, especially the boys.
“It is so popular that almost half of the pupils now have their own skipping rope.
“The playground is full of children skipping.
“This has improved the pupils’ behaviour at playtime, given them something to do and encouraged them to lead healthy lifestyles.”
