JOBS at Bury’s biggest private employer are to be lost after telecoms giant O2 announced plans to axe 160 posts at four call centres.
The company’s Leeds centre will bear the brunt of the reduction in staff but other roles will go at the Dumers Lane call centre and at offices in Runcorn and Glasgow.
The company, which has declined to give a breakdown of the job losses, says it needs to change some of its customer service roles.
An 02 statement said: “As a result, some new customer service roles will be created but we do expect a net reduction of around 160 roles. We will re-skill where possible and redeploy as many people as we can into other roles.”
The award-winning Bury pay and go call centre, established 10 years ago, currently employs 1,200 staff.
