A teenager had to have stitches to a facial injury after he was assaulted in Tottington.

The 17-year-old had been out with friends and left the Hark to Towler pub shortly after midnight on April 5.

He went to a nearby shop but made his way back to the pub after finding it shut.

As he walked along Market Street, near to the Co-Op shop, he passed a group of five men, one of whom pushed the victim.

The offender then threatened the teenager before assaulting him.

The victim suffered a deep cut to his eye and bruising to his face and head.

The offender is described as white, in his mid 20s, 5ft 10in tall, of average build with short ginger hair and a spotty complexion.

Detective Inspector Sarah Jackson, from Bury CID, said: "This was a very frightening incident for the victim, who was intimidated by a large group before being assaulted.

"The attack was completely unprovoked and totally unnecessary.

"I would appeal to anyone with information about who is responsible to call me.

"I would also like to offer those members of the group who did not attack the victim the chance to do the right thing and come forward."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Bury CID on 0161 856 4647, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
