MORE people than ever before flocked to Tottington on Sunday for the annual Music in the Park festival.

Thousands of music lovers enjoyed a mini Glastonbury-style afternoon of music and arts in Whitehead Gardens, Chapel Street.

Performers ranged from a samba act to a rock band, with sets from Shameless, Bury ACA Peelers, Dodgers, Leeds Steel, Atlanta Roots, Bloco Ashe Samba Band and Bronx.

The event, now in its ninth year, is staged by the congregation and friends of Tottington St Anne’s Church.

On the day, over £4,000 was raised for the on-going refurbishment of the church hall, thanks to band sponsorship, takings from stalls and donations from party-goers.

Organiser, Geoff Leach, said it was the best turn out yet.

He said: “It was a wonderful day. We filled the park and spilled out into the road for the best part of the afternoon.

“We had five new acts this year, including a choir, and we also welcomed back two of our favourites, Atlanta Roots and Leeds Steel from Leeds High School.

“Once again we were blessed with good weather and the light spot of rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.”

It was the first time the acts were supported by a professional sound system, adding to the day’s success.

In addition to the music there was a beer tent, barbecue, various stalls and games for all the family from 12pm to 5pm.
