AFTER dealing with complaints from rail passengers, Catherine Lee is now enjoying the “sweet” life.

For the 29-year-old has found a new station in life after acquiring an Aladdin’s cave of confectionery.

Catherine has bought the Ramsbottom Sweet Shop and is retaining the 1950s “flavour” of the premises.

Customers can go back to their childhood thanks to the range of sweets on sale, including boiled sweets, liquorice and midget gems.

The shop, in Bridge Street, is attracting customers of all ages and has been part of Ramsbottom’s retail landscape for a number of years.

Previously, the business was in Smithy Street before it was relocated by the previous owner.

Catherine, said: “Before this, I’d worked for a railway ombudsman, dealing with complaints every day. So this is a big change for me and it’s my first sole business venture.

“Ramsbottom Sweet Shop was previously owned by Christina Senior and I’m keeping the premises the way they were, down to the counter which is an old church pew. We have a lot of teddy bears and these are always an attraction.

“We have more than 200 sweet lines covering many of the old favourites and appealing to generations of customers.”

Quantities of sweets are weighed out on scales and individual varieties are kept in traditional large jars.

Catherine said: “For many customers, buying sweets is a treat. The shop is handy for those who don’t want to go into the supermarkets and it’s also ‘green’ in terms of the fact that there is no packaging.

“Many of our older clients will come in once a week and a lot of children will come here on Fridays.

“I must admit, I too have a sweet tooth. I just love the idea of running a shop like this. And Ramsbottom is such a nice town.”
