A church is embarking on twin missions to Austria and South Africa.

A total of 19 members of the Freedom Church in Bury are going on the trips from Monday, when the first group of 13 will leave for a children’s mission in Vienna, Austria, returning six days later.

This embraces clubs for youngsters aged four to 14 who live in disadvantaged areas.

The Austrian team comprises Hannah Walker, Gemma Smith, Anthony Smith, Catherine Layfield, Mark Berry, Hannah Berry, Cristan Durham, Paige Durham, Hayley Taylor, Becky Mayo, Fiona Higson, Sue Atack and Sade Campbell Mike Walker, from the church, said: “This is an opportunity to step into somebody else’s world and make a significant difference.”

In a separate mission, six members of the church will visit South Africa from next Thursday until April 12. The representatives are Mike Walker, Steven Durham, Darren Durham, Sue Durham, Martin Spence and Charlie Middlemas.

Mr Walker said: “We are teaming up with Net Church, Sittingbourne, to go on mission to Harrismith in South Africa.

“The mission has a large focus on community family fun day events and the team will also will be working with three projects. These are a building programme for residents in the area, a feeding programme for homeless people and working with an orphanage in the area.

“The team will also be going into the Drakensberg Mountains for a day.”
