MUSICIAN Mark Richardson has won backing from the UK's leading sports fashion retailer, Bury-based John David (JD) Group.

The company is supporting Mark, drummer in top UK rock band Feeder, when he takes part in a gruelling event for the Riders for Health charity.

Mark, who has been Feeder's drummer since 2002, is embarking on an epic two-week motorcycle trip commencing on November 18. He is taking part in the Enduro Africa ride, which involves around 100 bikers travelling 2500km across some of South Africa's most rugged and isolated terrain.

Enduro Africa will raise money for the charity Riders for Health, whose aim is to get African outreach health workers mobile and train them in bike maintenance.

Barry Bown, chief executive of JD Sports based at Hollins Brook Way, Pilsworth, said: "Having listened to Mark's desire to help this fantastic cause we at JD and our brand partner K-Swiss felt compelled to help. Between us we funded Mark's charity ride in full. We at JD are also providing the riders with tailor-made apparel for their epic journey".

For Mark to reach his financial targets, which will have a significant effect on the under-funded works carried out by the people in these remote areas he will need the public's help too.
