HEAVY goods vehicles thundering down roads in Hollins are a thing of the past.
Thanks to a successful seven-year campaign waged by residents, a 7.5 tonnes weight restriction order came into force on February 4.
The roads affected include the full lengths of Croft Lane, Hollins Lane and Hollins Brow plus Pilsworth Road (from Croft Lane to its junction with Pilsworth Way) and Parr Lane (from Hollins Lane to its junction with Sunny Bank Road).
The restrictions also apply to all side-streets, although there will be an exemption for vehicles which need access to properties in the area.
Councillor Joan Grimshaw, chairman of the Hollins Village Community Association, welcomed the move. She said: “The association had been involved in this campaign for seven years or longer. I think that through the association and the community coming together at meetings each month that we’ve got these weight restrictions introduced.
“There had been numerous complaints about HGVs, about houses cracking and the vibration. We even had a camera in a house where we could see the ornaments shaking every time one passed.”
