A JOINT investigation is under way after a 49-year-old man died when a crane he was driving crashed at a quarry near Edenfield.
Crane operator Lindsey Easton, of Sowerby Bridge, Halifax, was killed after the eight-axle, 130-tonne crane came off a hillside road near the Scout Moor wind farm site on Monday.
Fire crews said the vehicle collided with an earth bank, trapping and killing Mr Easton when a section of the crane collapsed. A joint Lancashire Police and Health and Safety Executive investigation is ongoing.
Officers said the crane was being driven through the site on a private road which is shared with the nearby quarry.
It is understood the crane had been used over the weekend to replace a faulty turbine and was being driven from the site.
Scout Moor wind farm, the largest inshore site in the country, is operated by Peel Energy.
