DETECTIVES are continuing to hunt for a gunman who shot a salesman in the leg outside a house in Bury.

The 30-year-old was in the process selling a car on Walmersley Road, when he was hit by a single gunshot shortly after 9.30pm last Thursday.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, and has since been discharged.

Police say two men, wearing balaclavas, had run over to the victim as he was sitting in the driver's seat of his VW Golf, which he was showing to a potential buyer.

One of the offenders opened the door, leant into the car and shot the victim in his leg.

Police believe it was a targeted attack, and have reassured the local community that a full investigation is being carried out.

Superintendent Mark Granby, of Bury Police, said: "Firearm discharges are very rare in the Bury area. This incident appears to be targeted at an individual and the investigation team is working hard to bring the offenders to justice.

"The local neighbourhood team have been out supporting the investigation and reassuring local residents. We will continue to work closely with local people to ensure there is confidence in the effectiveness of the investigation and to manage the aftermath of this situation."

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity - near to Bury Ambulance Station - who may have seen anything untoward, or who may have information.

A 27-year-old man arrested at the scene in connection with the incident has been bailed until January 4.
