THESE photographs were taken at Bury Hospice in 1991, when its doors were first opened to terminally-ill patients.

Now the charity wants people to contribute their own photographs and memories to a book celebrating its 21st anniversary.

A history of the hospice is being compiled, featuring the work that went into setting it up, the opening and everything that has happened since.

That could include anything from developments at the building to fundraising and the experiences of patients and their relatives.

Anyone with a link to the hospice is asked to contribute, including current and former employees, volunteers, trustees, fundraisers, patients and their families.

The book will be published in time for the hospice’s 21st anniversary celebrations in June, with proceeds to boost funds.

It will be one way of marking the end of an era, with the hospice moving in spring 2013 from its building in Dumers Lane, Radcliffe, to the new £5 million centre being built in Rochdale Old Road, Bury.

Jacqui Comber, hospice general manager, said: “We would like to record our history and make sure it isn’t lost when we move to the new building.

“We are appealing for people to tell us their memories and we’re particularly interested in seeing old photographs. It could be staff who worked here talking about how the hospice developed, photographs of the old matrons in their uniforms, funny stories from families and details of fundraising events. We also want to hear all the things that most people might not know about the hospice.”
