THE three letters in the Bury Times on September 28, plus the front page article: Don't shut our ward', sends warning signals as to the future of our NHS.

First let me say that this attack, on the most vulnerable of our society, must be answered by the people of Bury, in particular, our elders, because, if the powers that be' are allowed to get away with this despicable act, who is next in line?

The excuse that the Pennine Acute Trust uses - in debt to the tune of £28 million - is being used throughout the country. In my morning paper today it is reported that 3,000 people marched through Epsom in Surrey on Saturday protesting against the closure of the A&E department at their local hospital.

This, whilst the Government is planning to spend £25 BILLION on Trident nuclear Submarine system.

It has been estimated that this amount would pay for 120,000 nurses, 60,000 teachers and provide FREE higher education. This does not include the £50 BILLION needed to maintain the warheads over the next 30 years.

As a foundation member of Bury Pensioners' Association, I intend to ensure that this matter is discussed at our next meeting on Wednesday October 11 at 2pm at Bury Town Hall.

BE THERE!
