POLICE are appealing for information to track down a man who was headbutted while waiting for a taxi in Bury town centre.

The unprovoked attack happened on Silver Street just after 4am on Saturday, January 28.

The 29-year-old victim had been for a night out in the town and had walked to Bury Kars to wait for a taxi.

Two men approached, whom he did not know, before one headbutted him for no reason, and the other punched him in the face.

Passers-by came to the man’s aid, and he was taken to hospital where he was treated for a fractured jaw.

Both offenders were white, and one was described as around 5ft 10in, aged in his mid-20s with shaved brown hair and was wearing a blue top, possibly with patches on it.

Det Insp Victoria Shaw, of Bury CID, said: “He was simply waiting for a taxi minding his own business when he was subjected to a needless attack that has left him with a fractured jaw. It is the sort of mindless violence we are working very hard with our partner agencies in Bury to tackle and therefore it is very important we track the offenders down and bring them to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8162 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
